The “Jenzer dressing” or “Mrs. Jenzer’s salad dressing”  has been going on green salads in my home since before I was born.  We literally had this dressing or a version of this salad dressing every day at my house with our dinner greens.  As part of tradition, in my Swiss family we always had a salad at the end of every dinner.

This salad dressing is very basic and widely used throughout Switzerland, and it can be tweaked based on personal taste preferences and/or on your health values.  Each of my siblings make a different version of this recipe and now their kids have started to perfect it as well.

The Healthy Jenzer Dressing

The two ingredients that make this dressing addictive are Aromat and Maggi both of which are highly unacceptable ingredients.  I cry inside just thinking about how much I love Aromat on most everything that is savory.  Unfortunately, as I became health literate I found out it contained MSG.  Yikes!  Needless to say, we parted ways many years ago but it still feels like a fresh breakup. I know my neurons are shouting praises since I have abstained.

In my pursuit of optimal health I’ve substituted the ingredients for better options, and as a result have managed to get Dr. Matt addicted to this dressing.

I love the way my brother Manny makes this dressing, he uses apple cider vinegar (which is in the original version) …the balsamic tones it down nicely.  I always have the following three ingredients on hand and this takes literally less than 30 seconds for me to make (I’ve timed myself).

Salad Dressing

1/8th cup organic mustard

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

1/2 cup avocado oil or olive oil

Herbamare to taste (optional) — This is a game changer!

Mix together in a glass jar and store in fridge for up to 2 weeks although it won’t last that long.

Dr. Ama’s favorite combos with greens include:

Sliced almonds

Parmesan cheese

Apple

Or

Carrot

Tomato

Goat cheese

Or

Pear

Hazelnut

Gorgonzola
