Overview
what defines us as a clinicFaith is Paramount
We are each created for a divine purpose and settling into this diving purpose is a recipe for a healthy fulfilled life. Proverbs 18:14 states that, “A man’s spirit will sustain him in sickness, but a crushed spirit, who can bear?” Faith and hope for tomorrow really are paramount. The understanding that we are not an accident and that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” by creator God will surely do more for our quality of life than any amount of organic eating we could do. When the advances of life come and stressors are overwhelming it cannot be understated how vital the connection to the King of the Universe and a faith community becomes.
Physical, relational, spiritual, and financial trials are unavoidable at some juncture in life but they do not have to overwhelm the soul, leading to anxiety and depression. The Bible says in Matthew 11:29 “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gently and lowly in heart, and you WILL find rest for your souls.” Receiving the Faith to rest in the love of Christ for us is no easy task given the speed of the world around us. In the same manner eating living foods, cooking meals at home and finding time each day for physical activity isn’t “easy” so we have to program our days to receive the daily input and food for the spirit from God.
We can enjoy the total package of wellness, where our spirit is alive, our mind is sharp and our body is strong and energized.
Food is Medicine
Food is the fuel of your biochemistry. Who doesn’t want to promote strength, energy, vitality, longevity, great libido and a body that smiles back at you?
We are all born with both happy and sad genes. Food can positively or negatively influence whether these genes are expressed. Life giving foods like vegetables, fruit, salmon, grassfed beef, resistant starches, nuts and seeds strongly enable positive gene expression. Gene expression is what really matters when talking about your health state looking forward. The beauty of eating living whole foods is that you can click the genetic switches in your favor.
Food should be very enjoyable for your palate as well as your cells. If the food substance you are eating is just satisfying cravings, you are going to be in trouble. But let’s not dwell on the negative. Consider on the other hand if we bombard our bodies with a rainbow of colors and anti-inflammatory fatty acids. We will get gene expression that enables our bodies to bypass disease and dysfunction and thrive in the most intense environments.
Living foods on destructive genes are like Richard Sherman on a 49’ers wide receiver, suffocating. On the flip side living foods are like early summer flowering blooming to beneficial genes, life giving!
Fitness is Necessary
I haven’t found too many moments in life more gratifying than being given a task or a physical challenge and finding that my body was well able to complete it. Whether it is weekly basketball, carrying little ones for hours on end, an impromptu hike, a crossfit workout or a scheduled half marathon what a blessing it is to have the fitness to be able to perform. For some time now “fitness” has been relegated to videos of women in leotards doing side leg raises or on the other extreme professional athletes. Fitness is for all of us. Fitness is performing well at any and all tasks presented to us. If you are an elderly person, fitness may be the ability to get off the toilet, out of the bath or off the floor everyday so that you can stay independent of the nursing home.
When most people think of fitness, the first thoughts that come to mind are exhaustion, burning muscles, and shortness of breath. While it is true that when we endeavor to increase our fitness levels these items will very likely be present, it is more constructive to think about how fitness propels us into a place where we can experience the wonder of creation without limitation.
I can think of countless times I have participated in hikes, rafting trips, skiing adventures, theme park rides, and family outings where someone in the party had to stay back due to an element related to a lack of fitness. I am not talking about your grandma who is in her 90s and is no longer able to rock climb. I am talking about lives that are lived in a bed, car, office chair, couch, dinner table and back in the bed again. To put it simply, you are missing out. Your TV/computer will be there when you get back.
Muscle mass is the #1 biological marker of aging. Our youthfulness is directly related to our fitness.
